Why am I doing this?

I believe everyone has a “big why” in their life. What’s yours?

For me, ever since young, I have always had a strong interest in finance and have immersed myself in it (and I still do). So, after graduating from university, it was natural for me to enter the industry of financial advisory, and I have never once left it.

Why?

Throughout close to a decade, I have seen my clients build up their assets to purchase their second property, ensure their children’s education is catered for, and achieve a comfortable retirement nest egg.

Additionally, I have seen some of them being dealt with injuries and illnesses and how insurance claims have helped them through the dark times.

Being older (and wiser, I hope), my conviction in this line of work has strengthened (no matter what others are saying about our industry). I realise what I do is meaningful and can have a profound impact on others.

Which is why I would like to share my views with you through a consultation. Feel free to say no to me, though. At least, I would have done my job.

A little bit more about me

Oh, you want to know even more about me? Sure.

Nicholas Tang is my name. Some may say that I’m affiliated with Tang Plaza in Orchard, but that’s not true at all.

I graduated with a double degree in Banking and Finance back in Feb 2013. Shortly after, I joined the financial planning industry in June 2013. Currently, I’m an Associate Director at finexis advisory, an independently-owned financial advisory firm, and my RNF code is TJJ300170659. I have achieved MDRT qualification for the past 4 years (2021–2024).

Throughout my career as a financial planner, I have helped executives and professionals from different fields.

On a more serious note, being a nerd, I like watching TV during my time off. I like watching sports like football, basketball, cue sports as well as serial dramas.

The 3 core services I can provide

As you will have a different financial situation, expectations, and goals, from the person next to you, a comprehensive financial planning session will factor all those in and a tailor-made financial plan will be created just for you.

It will consider three main areas: wealth protection, wealth accumulation, and wealth distribution.

1) Wealth Protection

As a working adult, your income is the most important element because it enables you to pay the bills, provides you disposable money to enjoy life, and allows you to save and invest for the future.

If mishaps happen, you might lose the ability to work and earn an income.

Therefore, protecting your wealth (future income and hard-earned money) through various insurance instruments, such as term insurance and health insurance, ensures you will not go back to square one.

Being able to distribute solutions from 15? financial institutions in Singapore, I can make sure that your insurance portfolio is optimised and there are no leaks. You will have a peace of mind, no matter rain or shine.

2) Wealth Accumulation

With inflation increasing at an alarming rate (i.e., higher costs of living), making your money work harder has become a necessity.

Your bigger goals such as retirement and children’s education require large financial resources. Simply saving in the bank account will not work.

By doing something to your excess savings, you can achieve potentially higher returns, so that you can achieve more in a shorter amount of time.

Depending on your risk appetite, a portfolio can be crafted for you from a range of products (e.g., annuities, investments, etc).

By starting early and starting right, you will not be caught off-guard when the need for money comes.

3) Wealth Distribution

Talking about death can be uncomfortable, but it is an inevitable part of life. The sooner we talk about it, the sooner your mind will be at ease.

Have these thoughts ever crossed your mind:

  • How best to maximise a sum of money you are planning to leave behind?
  • What happens to your assets and liabilities if you are not around anymore?
  • Does your family know what to do in the event of your death?

These are crucial discussions because there can be negative implications if nothing is done. Not only that, it is crucial for you to be acquainted with tools such as nominations, wills and trusts, lasting power of attorney, etc.

While you may think you have all the time in the world, know that anything can happen in the blink of an eye, and when they do, it will be too late. It never hurts to be prepared.
